New and classic cocktails at this popular neighborhood bar

Well-loved Mexican bar Pocho Social Club, who recently celebrated their third anniversary, updated their cocktails menu over the summer with some sparkling new seasonal offerings. On our visit, we managed to sample two from the new selection.
We first tried the Twenty Four 7 Sunny G (RMB85), a strong yet refreshing gin-based drink made with freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and a pop of prosecco. Homemade thyme syrup is added to the mix, introducing a unique flavor that also works to counterbalance the gin. It’s a drink to be enjoyed while dancing along to the Latin rhythms at the bar.
Next up was the Tea Colada (RMB60), Pocho’s latest take on the classic Pina Colada. The coconut flavor comes from both coconut ice cubes and their own ‘Cocoloco’ coconut rum, a dash of Thai black tea and a spinkle of cinnamon completes the drink.
We also found time to revisit one of our favorites, the Tequila Sour (RMB60) which really lived up to its status as a Pocho bestseller. Fresh lemon juice and blue agave nectar are added to Cabrito tequila for a refreshing drink that is livened up by a frothy egg white mixture for a smoothie-like consistency. This was something we could see ourselves ordering multiple times throughout a night here.
How the Twenty Four 7 Sunny G is Made:
- Freshly squeezed: Press two generous slices of grapefruit to extract the juice. The grapefruit juice gives the drink its fruity flavor and pale pink color.
- Pair it up: Pour 45 ml of Citadelle gin, 15 ml of thyme syrup and the grapefruit juice into a shaker. Add ice and shake well.
- Fizz to finish: Top it off with 30 ml of De Faveri prosecco. Garnish with three sprigs of thyme to serve.
